A NOte from the Babe Ruth Program:

Good morning everyone,
We have started the process for summer Babe Ruth baseball.  We have opened up registration to see the interest at every level, so we can figure out team counts as well as the fields we will need to reserve based on the amount of teams.  With that, at this point there will be NO CHARGE to register, we will figure out the cost once the numbers are finalized and fields and umps are reserved.  Registration deadline will be MAY 16th at midnight, that will give me a couple days to get team counts together.  Evaluations will be TBD, that will be based on numbers.
To register please go to: www.palonline.org
Click on registration at the top, then KP Babe Ruth Registration
Summer baseball at this level is open to anyone who has played spring ball either through the Massasoit league, high school/middle school or AAU.  We will be hoping to field teams at every level of Hock in multiple divisions as well as the barnstormer league.
We have also created a new division for 19-21 year olds, so if you have a son who has graduated and is looking for a place to play with smaller rosters of friends they have not played with in while, then you should have them sign up as well.  If you have any questions on this division please email Tom Ohlson at
Time commitments:  Hock is historically 3 games per week.  Barnstormer is 2 games per week.  No weekends, unless you play in tournaments or have make up games.
For your reference here is the age chart for Babe Ruth league to see what age group you should be registering for.  https://www.baberuthleague.org/league-resources/baseball-age-chart.aspx
If you are interested in coaching please register on the same site, and click coaches registration.
Thank you for your time, if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a email.

Hello WYBSA parents!
Just a quick reminder that this Thursday (5/10/2018) evening at 6:30 is the AED training with Fire Captain / Paramedic Robert Holst.  He will be teaching us all how to properly use this life-saving device.  It is critical for the safety of our children and all of us at the fields that as many people as possible know how to use the AED.
Ideally, a parent and coach from each team should be properly trained so we can guarantee safety to everyone at the fields.
Please try to find the time for this very important training to empower yourself.

A Message from the WYBSA President
by posted 01/22/2018

Hello Baseball and Softball Families,

I am writing to formally introduce myself to you and update you on the many items that are upcoming for Wrentham Youth Baseball and Softball.  My name is Brad MacDonald and I will be serving as the President of WYBSA this season.  I grew up playing baseball on Sweatt field and some of my fondest childhood memories are rooted from these experiences.  My goal is to allow WYBSA to continue to run in a way that provides the children of Wrentham a chance to build their own great memories.

I want to thank a few people who have dedicated a great deal of time to the WYBSA in the past few years.  Joe Gallagher has served as President the past two seasons and thankfully he will be remaining on the board serving as Vice President.  Craig Jacobs has served as Secretary and Registrar for the past several years.  He has passed the Secretary role along but will remain on the board.  Dave Gresham has been a board member for several years and the past two years he has served as Vice President.  Dave has stepped down from a voting member position but vows to still be involved coaching this season.  Thank you all for the time and work that you have put in to make Wrentham Baseball and Softball a better place for our Wrentham kids.

Spring registration is set to open up early this week.  We have a couple of changes that I want to make you aware of.  First of all, you may have heard that we have moved to an new registration system.  This first year will take a little extra work as you will have to enter your family information into the system.  After that we think that you will find it very user friendly.  The functionality of the app will be improved making it easier for teams to communicate information.

The other change that we have made is that we are going to play "Wrentham Only" baseball this spring.  For the past several years our spring schedule has included teams from Plainville.  This winter, Plainville and Norfolk joined together and have decided to change the structure of their leagues.  Wrentham was asked to participate in this new program but after much debate, we have decided to keep the same structure that we have been using for years. Ultimately, as a board we felt the objective of WYBSA's spring baseball season is to provide a baseball/softball experience for all kids in Wrentham and be as inclusionary as possible.  Our strong registration numbers allow us to field approximately eight teams at both the minors and majors level and we will still participate in the KP Cup in mid May.  We are looking forward to a fun, competitive spring season in 2018.

Currently, we are working with Norfolk and Plainville to create a King Philip Babe Ruth program.  When entering seventh grade most of these kids start going to school together, so it is a perfect time to transition to playing baseball together.  Our hope is that all registration will filter through one of the towns and from there coaches will be assigned and teams will be formed.  Our town will have plenty of representation as we iron out the details and develop a league that lines up with our core values.

Winter Clinics are set to start January 28th.  Registration is still open, so take advantage of the low $50 fee to get your baseball or softball player some indoor practice before the spring season starts.  Follow this link and click Register Now to sign up on our new site.  WYBSA Homepage

I am really excited for the upcoming season and working with all of our amazing volunteer coaches to provide your children with a wonderful experience playing baseball or softball in Wrentham.

WYBSA Board Updates

Updates for 2017

Happy Christmas Eve WYBSA Community,

As we wrap up the calendar year with our festive activities, we wanted to let you know about some changes to the WYBSA Leadership team and a quick look forward to our administration system.

Our Annual meeting was held publicly on October 17th, 2017 at the Delaney School.  At this time, three Board Member seats were up for (re)election.  We are excited to announce that those seats were filled by the following volunteers:

  • John Lutfy:  John was re-elected after fulfilling a two year seat already on the board.  John has volunteered as a coach for several years now and has been the lead on several of our field improvement projects during the past few years.
  • Jeff DeBaggis: Jeff has already served a two year term as a volunteer board member and a coach.  Jeff is a very active board member and is always available to lend a hand as needed.
  • Marty Canavan:  We are excited to welcome Marty to the board as a brand new Board Member.  Marty (and his wife Stephanie) are super involved in Wrentham Youth Sports and are no stranger to lending a hand as needed.  Marty have served as a coach/Asst coach as needed over the past several years.

In November, the Executive Board underwent an overhaul with 3 of 4 members stepping down from their positions.  The new Executive board members and and subsequent board elections went as follows:

  • Brad MacDonald (New President):  Brad was elected President of the Board after serving once year on the Board as a voting board member and being the League coordinator for Farm league and summer ball in 2017.
  • Joe Gallagher (New Vice President): After a BUSY 2017 season, our fearless leader stepped down as Pres. to take on a more active roll with this childrens other sports.  He is excited to stay on the executive board for one more year (at least)
  • Carey Robinson (New Secretary): After serving one year as an associate board member, and this past year as a voting board member, Carey stepped up to the plate and assumed the Secretary role.  She is also the Social Media coordinator and Website lead.
  • Steve Corcoran: Steve has served as Treasurer for several years now and will remain in this position.  He is also an active volunteer coach and helps out quite a bit with field maintenance.

  • Craig Jacobs:  Craig was elected to a board seat after stepping down from several years as the WYBSA Secretary.  Craig brings many years of WYBSA knowledge to the board and will serve a one year term in this position.  Craig has also graciously offered to be acting Registrar this year while we transition someone else to this position for next year.  He will work closely with Carey on the Spring season registration as we implement the new administrative system (more info below).
  • John Ford:  After serving a two year seat as a voting Board Member, John will continue on his role as a voting Board Member for a one year term.

  • Mark Anderson:  Mark does an excellent job as our lead on equipment management.  He is also an active coach and field volunteer.
  • Bill Sheehan:  Bill will stay on as our lead on all things scheduling (which is no easy task!).  He is also an active coach and field volunteer.

We are also extremely pleased to welcome quite a few new Associate Board members to the Community Meetings.  Thank you to ALL OF YOU for your volunteered time, which is no small task.

We also would like to remind you all that WYBSA runs on volunteers and we cannot do this without them.  there is no job too small.  So whatever you can do to help out, holla!!

Thank you to all those members who have served on our board and have stepped down in recent years.  We are lucky to have had your input and we thank you kindly for all your time.

In the early part of 2018 we will be switching over to a new League Athletics/Sports Illustrated system.  We will be requiring everyone at this time to sign up for a new account.  Any residual fees from this past year that have not yet been paid, will be then applied to your new account where appropriate (e.g. Volunteer opt-out).   We will be in touch shortly with details and where to start the sign up process.   After this, once we are comfortable that the transition has been made effectively, we will no long be using our current Bonzi system.   Thanks so much for your patience during this time.

Warm Greetings for a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family,

Hello WYBSA Families:

As the Opening Day has come and gone, gloomy weather and all, the 2017 WYBSA regular season is in full swing. It seemed like a perfect time to reach out to the WYBSA community with an introduction of myself and an overview of what we have planned for this year.

My name is Joe Gallagher and I am currently in my second year as WYBSA President, I have two children playing in WYBSA, have been coaching both baseball and softball for the past 5 seasons during each of the spring, summer and fall seasons. In addition to myself our Board consists of the following members:

Vice President - Dave Gresham
Secretary - Craig Jacobs
Treasurer - Steve Corcoran

Board Members
Mark Anderson                       Brad MacDonald
Jeff DeBaggis                         Carey Robinson
John Ford                                Bill Sheehan
John Lufty

I also wanted to touch on some of the new things planned for this season that be happening over the course of the next month:

  • We will be hosting a Softball Jamboree for our Majors and Minors divisions which will be hosted at Sweatt Fields on Saturday May 13th. In addition to our own teams, the tournament style Saturday will include teams at both divisions from Foxboro, Norfolk, North Attleboro and Plainville. This is a great opportunity for players who would not otherwise play in a tournament style setting.
  • In an effort to increase baseball opportunities for our players, Wrentham in conjunction with Norfolk and Plainville, will be offering an opportunity to join a 50/70 program for our Major League players which is in addition to our current spring recreation baseball offering. The difference between a 50/70 program and our current spring season is that the pitching mound is 50 feet from home plate rather than 46, bases are 70 feet apart rather than 60, and the in-game activity is played like high school baseball with leading and other aspects of live ball.  If you missed our earlier email about this program and have interest in participating, please let us know this week.
  • Coaches we have heard your commentary about lining the fields prior to your team’s game and how it interferes with pre-game preparation. In-response to feedback, we will be leveraging members of our Junior Umpire Program to handle field preparation. We are finalizing the details and are looking to have this in place by the start of/early May.
  • Also as many of you have already heard, this year is our pilot season of the Junior Warriors AAU program.  The purpose of the program is to provide a more competitive level of baseball during the spring and giving the opportunity to stay with WYBSA rather than leave for outside programs.  Based on many factors we decided to offer the program to our 11 & 13 year old age groups.  These teams have been practicing since January and games are under way.
  • Another item that was brought to us from our community was the addition of our “Volunteer Opt Out” registration option. We understand that not everyone’s schedule allows for volunteer time and with the additional funds, we increased the amount of our 2 scholarships for graduating KPHS seniors from $500 to $1000.

As a Board, we are always looking for new ideas or suggestions to continue to improve the experience for each of our players. If you have any questions or comments – whether it’s about the changes that we will be undergoing or any topic – please let us hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support of WYBSA and I look forward to seeing everybody at the fields!

AED's and Training
by posted 04/25/2017

Hello Parents and Coaches,

WYBSA is delighted and relieved to announce that on Wedneday, May 3rd at 7pm, there will be a very important and brief training session for coaches and parents interested in learning how to use the life-saving AED (automated external defibrillator). The training will be held in the Wrentham Fire Department's main lobby training room.

Paramedic Robert Holst has obtained 3 AEDs for the town of Wrentham and would like to have one installed at Sweatt Fields immediately, one at Rice Complex and one at Sweatt Beach. In order for this to happen, we need to have many of our WYBSA adults trained in the proper use of this critical life-saving equipment. If we can get at least one adult representing each team to attend on Wednesday evening, that would be terrific.

The training is undoubtedly not at an ideal time as some teams will be playing or having practice, but we want to schedule this as quickly as possible in order to get the equipment available for use at our fields. If you are interested and able to attend on Wednesday or are interested in another date (to be determined soon), please email Erin MacDonald at as soon as possible with your name, contact info (cell phone and email) as well as the name of your child (children's) team (teams) and if you would like to attend Wednesday or another date.

Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing many of you next Wednesday!
